Workshop ‘Experimental Typography. Breaking and Remixing Letterforms and Layouts’ held with Laura Meseguer at ISIA di Urbino
This 28-hour workshop explored techniques of deconstruction and reconstruction in typography, drawing inspiration from a range of artistic movements. Students were invited to break apart and remix typographic elements, taking cues from styles such as Victorian Art, Cubism, Op Art, Punk, etc.
Each group was given a paragraph of Beatrice Warde’s iconic essay Typography Should Be Invisible, playfully and ironically subverting its message through visual reinterpretation.
As a final exhibition, the resulting posters collectively re-constructed the original text on the wall, transforming the space into a comprehensive display of the students’ creations. Additionally, a small, experimental, collective publication was also produced, documenting the diverse outcomes of the four-day work.
